Adjusting to New Norms as a Geezer Skier

Yesterday I had my first mishap for the season.  Thankfully at 90 I am still quite competent on the slopes.  While that may be the case, the inexorable challenges of aging do have an effect how much I should challenge myself.  Also one has to make wise decisions regarding how much you should push the envelope.    In this day and age with modern medicine and other miracles we are living longer into meaningful lives.  However, as I have read in a New York Times article about the Wild old Bunch at Alta you do have to dial back a bit and accept that you are no longer a teenager.  Within the avid older skier there still lies the 16 year old desire to conquer everything on the slopes.   The reality is one needs to be content with mostly green and blues with an occasional black thrown in on the best days.

Today was a day off from my usual departure to the slope during the week days.  I don't need to fight the rain and ungroomed wet snow.  Another bit of advice to the geezer skier is also to pick your days on the slopes with wisdom.  Avoid weekend skiing almost all the time.  Too much congestion.   As I finish this blog, I reflect on this crazy weather day as one going from snow on my yard disappearing this morning in the rain and now to a dusting of new snow near the end of the day.  Hoping Monday will bring a fresh start to some decent conditions.  If not, I can be patient.  Maybe that is the best final advice.  Seize the day whenever you can, but don't push the envelope too far.
